When thinking about Iran, it's easy to picture a nation almost entirely made up of one particular Islamic branch, and for a lot of people, that image is pretty accurate. Yet, there's a really interesting story about the folks who practice a different kind of Islam there, a story that often gets less attention. We're going to spend some time looking at the Sunni Muslim community within Iran, figuring out where they fit in, both historically and right now.
You see, for quite a long stretch of time, from the 7th century all the way up to the 15th century, the Sunni way of Islam was, in fact, the main way of believing for folks living in Iran, more or less. Scholars from Iran during that period actually added a whole lot to what people call the Islamic Golden Age, which is quite something. It’s almost as if the past had a different tune
